Content SEO Markup Process
Last Edited: 2026-07-07 00:30
To ensure content produced ranks well, it must all be optimized by an SEO specialist. These are the steps for the Content/SEO Markup Process. Please make sure you go through each of these steps in order. Each page should take no more than 30 minutes, and the order should be completed within two business days. You will be completing this process on the website itself after the page has been implemented.
WORKFLOW
Step 1: Confirm Page Type
Look at the content order form ticket the task is made on. Confirm what type of page you’re dealing with:
- City Page
- Service Page
- City-Service Page
- Article
- Case Study
Step 2: Verify Page Details
Verify that the following items are properly configured:
- H1 (Must contain relevant service and target location terms)
- Page Title (Proper meta title tag structure)
- Page Name
- URL Slug (Confirm clean, SEO-friendly layout)
- Meta Description (Ensure compelling length and CTR keywords)
- Name in Menu (Keep it short and clean)
Note: In the future, this verification will be accomplished at an earlier stage. For the time being, it is still required during markup.
Step 3: Verify Proper Tag Usage
Verify that system tags are applied correctly wherever applicable:
- Company Age:
{#COMPANYAGE} - Company Year Founded:
{#COMPANYYEARFOUNDED} - Phone:
{#COMPANYMOBILEPHONE}/{#COMPANYPHONE} - Service Area Description:
{#companyservicearea} - View Google Review Link:
{#VIEWGOOGLEREVIEWS} - Company Name:
{#COMPANYNAME}(Use exactly once on each page){#COMPANYABBV}
- Page Variables:
{#NAMEINMENU}{#PAGENAME}{#PAGECITY}
- Social Media/Citation Links:
{#BBB}{#FACEBOOK}{#INSTAGRAM}{#ANGI}
Contingent Tag Rules
- City Tags (can be used on non-city pages):
{#SEOCITY1RAW}{#SEOCITY2RAW}{#SEOCITY3RAW}
- Service Tags (can be used on non-service pages):
{#SERVICE1}(and case variations e.g.{#SERVICE1 case="lower"},season="heating",season="inverse"){#SERVICE2}/{#SERVICE2 case="lower"}{#SERVICE3}/{#SERVICE3 case="lower"}
Step 4: Alt Text
- Verify that all images have descriptive alt text.
- Try to include target city/service keywords, but prioritize accurately describing the image.
Step 5: Verify Keyword Usage
- City References:
- Use 10–15 references for non-articles.
- Use 3–5 references for articles.
- Incorporate the city tag, service area tag, and appended cities.
- Try to utilize "near me" terms 2–3 times throughout the page (e.g., near me, near you, nearby, close to).
- Service References:
- Use 10–20 references for non-articles.
- Use 3–5 references for articles.
- Incorporate service tags and appended services.
- Provided Keywords (Once per document):
- Verify variations and reordering of core keywords (e.g. AC Repair, Fix my AC, air conditioner repair, air conditioning repairman, broken AC or Plumber, plumbing specialist, plumbing contractor, plumber near me).
- Bolding:
- Bold important long-tail terms (that would link to other pages) exactly 2–5 times per page.
- Examples: "We offer the best AC repair in
{#SEOCITY1RAW}", "we're proud to offer LG compressor repair near you".
Step 6: Internal Linking
- Use 5–10 internal links throughout the page (excluding buttons).
- Priority Links:
- Anchor text with high relevance.
- Specific niche pages.
- At least one link pointing to the About Us page.
- Do not attempt to link to the same page more than once. Minimize crossover with button actions.
- Reference the Friendly URL Redirect Template.
- Include blogs (two to three articles) and standalone content links whenever possible.
- Always link service boxes to their relevant service pages.
Step 7: External Linking
- Verify that links selected by the writer/freelancer are valid.
- Add additional links under these circumstances:
- At least two links to back up claims/facts (e.g., a statistics source, industry standards, or articles explaining the dangers of DIY fixes).
- For City Pages:
- Link to the official city website, city permit site, or local utility site.
- Three links to local businesses or landmarks.
- At least one link to the company's Google Business Profile (GBP) or other citation.
- Do NOT link to:
- Competitor websites.
- Other contractors' blogs.
- Directory pages where users can search for other contractors directly.
Step 8: Run Speed and Validation Tools
- Run PageScanner and PageSpeed Insights on the page.
- Log and resolve any immediate issues, and hand back to the respective parties if template/code fixes are required.
Step 9: Completing this Task
- When complete, check off the relevant markup task in ClickUp. It will automatically reassign to the designated team member for final approval.
